Juice Podcast Receiver (and how to get it work with Vista)
The Juice Receiver was formerly (and probably better known as) iPodder. It is a multiplatform Open Source Podcast aggregator client. It was the first podcast receiver I used (first on a Windows PC and later on a Mac until iTunes added podcasting features). I still use it on the Windows side for the few podcasts that do not go on my iPod.
Windows Vista users may run into a glitch when attempting to run it on that new OS release. However, there is an entry in the Juice Receiver Support Programs that explains how to use it under a Windows XP SP2 Compatibility Mode for use with Vista:

Hi, try Mediafly SyncClient
Hi, try Mediafly SyncClient (www.mediafly.com/syncclient). It works on Vista without anything special (but not 64 bit). And it can act as a downloader or sync your podcasts with iTunes or any MTP-enabled media player (e.g. Sansa, iriver, etc.)
You can import your OPML file via the "add feed" link at the bottom of mediafly site. Select the bulk import option.

Hey Todd, this link is broke, and every reference I find points to this link, how do you do it?
The site is back online now.
The site is back online now. But, just in case it goes back down again, here's the pertinent text from the forum posting by jimco over there:
To correct this, you simply need to run Juice in Windows XP SP2 compatibility mode.
I was able to get it running
I was able to get it running in vista ultimate by:
Right click on the install file and click "run as administrator".
Once installed when you need to open the program right click on it and click "run as administrator". Works fine for me.
I cannot get it to work with
I cannot get it to work with Vista Home Premium 32bit. Has anybody else had any luck getting Juice to work on Vista?

Samundus: Thanks for the feedback. Not too surprising, I'm afraid. Like XP 64-bit before it, Vista 64-bit has the same compatibility issues with drivers and software.
You can't really blame
You can't really blame 64-bit for asking you to follow good coding rules...

I don't see anything on this page that would have solved your - or my - problem
Yeah Vista 64 seems to still
Yeah Vista 64 seems to still be a pain with many programs. Good thing though, you can now get more info on juice website, in the wiki:
http://www.juicereceiver.com/wiki/howto, on the bottom of the page they talk about vista 64.
The only recipe for success for Vista/64 is when people will start making programs to work with the "new" OS :/
This is how i fixed my
This is how i fixed my juice/vista problem. Juice was looking for a "my documents" folder, not just a "documents" folder. After installation i opened; username\appdata\Roaming\iPodder. In that folder i opened "ipodder" with windows notepad. 5 lines down on the "download_dir" line i removed the word "my" from the "my documents" bit, then closed the gap where the word was. After that it worked fine. I had tried a million fixes but this worked for me. Hope it helps someone else.
Thanks for your post choppa!
Thanks for your post choppa! It worked perfectly. You'd think the Juice folks could make that minor modification and provide a Vista version, but anyway it worked! Appreciate you taking the time to post it!

AWESOME! Thanks so much for the post. My Juice is flowing!
This worked great for me.
This worked great for me. You need to have the Hidden Folder turned on so that you can see these folders, though. Took me a moment to realize that.
Thank you for your help.

This worked for me, without having to elevate Juice to Administrator. Thanks.
This solves the problem
This solves the problem totally. I used Notepad to open the ipodder.cfg file and did the edits as suggested.
This solved the problem for me. Run as administrator and the compatibility to windows xp 2 suggestion also helped I think. I did all three.

Yes. you need to change the
Yes. you need to change the folder Juice saves the downloaded files to from "My Computer" to "Computer". But you can do this from the program itself, under the following: ->File-> Preferences-> General. Then at the bottom of the "General" page, change the folder Juice saves to, to the following:
C:\Users\N\Documents\My Received Podcasts. Or anything you want to browse to.
Also don't forget to right click on the icon for Juice, open the properties page and set it to run as an administrator from the check box, and also set it for compatibility mode for Win XP Sp2.
It will definitely work after doing this.
Brilliant - it works! It
Brilliant - it works! It works!
But, I can't get the program
But, I can't get the program to open to make this change. How do I get the program to open to be able to do this? Whenever I try to open the program I get an error message that refers me to the "juice.exe.log" file where it tells me that what you are saying is the problems is, in fact, the problem.
I had to delete the folder
I had to delete the folder "My Received Podcasts" (in addition to running as an Admin and compatiblity xp sr2), to get around the juice.exe.log problem. Then Juice opened up and I was able to change the Files>Preferences>General to the new My Received Podcasts that I browsed to.
You don't open Juice to make
You don't open Juice to make the change. You find the iPodder.cfg file and open that file with notepad. Find any instances of "My Documents" and change it to "Documents". This will fix the problem.
Incidentally, the iPodder.db (same directory as the .cfg file) and history.db (in history subdirectory there) files can be copied from another computer if you want to retain such data.
