But, if Chrome is so good, why is it so hard to port it to Linux and Mac OS X? Perhaps the code is major ugly or so Windows specific, they can't figure out how to make work elsewhere?

I also wonder why.... The common sense invites to think that the hard thing would be to make Chrome run on Windows, as its basic components, specially WebKit, are native to the Linux and, in a lesser extent, Mac world.
Maybe Google is afraid to release something for MAC community that is not 100% perfect, because they know MAC users tend to be more concerned with details than Win users, and besides in a Windows application ... well you can always blame Windows itself!
I've been playing around with the latest Chrome version for MacOS and I have to say it feels really snappy.
Hurray...the first browser I
Hurray...the first browser I have installed to score a perfect 100 on Acid3!! (Consider, by contrast, the disappointing 20 that Internet Explorer 8 scored.)
I have also been frustrated with the lack of non-Windows versions. The authors use expressions like "started from scratch" and "open source" and claim to have "used components from Apple's WebKit and Mozilla's Firefox" in developing this browser.
I seldom use Windows anymore, so I am happy for all you who have Chrome as an alternative. Firefox is OK on Ubuntu, but the browser options on Mac are totally unacceptable. I hate having Safari, Opera and Flock all sitting on my Dock so that I can pick one least ill-suited to the application I am running.
