Adobe Acrobat Reader 8 for Windows Vista
If you go to the Adobe Reader 8 download page and are running Windows Vista, it will detect it provides a link labeled as compatible with Vista.
I ran into a little glitch that I started noticing just the other day when installing applications. The installers for the last two Vista compatible applications I installed (including Adobe Reader 8) kept telling me to close Windows Explorer even though no IE7 or Windows Explorer file listing window was open. I had to go to Task Manager, end the Explorer process, and lose the GUI menus to complete the installation. Since I had no GUI after the installation, I pressed Ctrl-Alt-Del to get the Vista task chooser and forced a restart.

Can someone explain to me WHY
Can someone explain to me WHY I cannot just download version 8 Acrobat for VISTA? Why do people have to go through the contorted steps I am reading about?! What's going on?
I recently downloaded the
I recently downloaded the most recent version of adobe reader on my vista PC, (8.1.1 I think?)
After completing the download, any time I go to open adobe a new window opens, which I assume is the licence agreement (I only know this because of the end result) After very briefly showing the adobe logo the page immediately says "this program cannot display the web page, most likely cause, you are not connected to the internet..."
Of course I am connected to the internet. The only thing I am able to do at that point is close that window at which time another appears saying "the licence agreement was not accepted the program will now close." I contacted adobe and the links they sent me were useless.
Has anyone had a similar situation? Resolution? Thanks in advance for any help anyone is able to give me!!

I have the same problem. I get the license agreement to come up but I can't accept it--the system won't allow me to select accept. Instead, I finally cancel out of the license agreement without getting adobe to open. Then I get "the licence agreement was not accepted the program will now close." I haven't found one hint across the net on how to install adobe on vista correctly...any help out there?

I just bought a new computer, The OS is Windows Vista. The DVD Shrink I used on my XP system will not work on Vista. Anyone know where I can find a good dvd shrinker that works with Vista?
you would need to download
you would need to download the last version of dvd shrink which is DVD Shrink 3.2. We have vista and this version is compatiable with DVD Shrink 3.2. This is the final and last copy of DVD Shrink 3.2. you won't get any other versions that are compatiable with vista. you can download DVD Shrink 3.2 off the internet for free... Hope this helps u out!
Great, another unneeded
Great, another unneeded update to software so that we will have an excuse to shell out more money. What is wrong with Acrobat 7 on XP? Why a new version, even if it IS for another OS? It does the same thing, no?

Thanks for the fix. Damn
Thanks for the fix.
Damn this Vista is the slickest, shiniest, most over-engineered steaming pile of shit I have ever seen. Every time I try to do ANYTHING, Vista finds a new way to make it harder, more annoying and 100% frustrating.
Its like Microsoft employed a team of top-gun usability experts to analyse every aspect of how an OS should work, and then did exactly the opposite.
Amen - I also had this issue
Amen - I also had this issue with a new Visa install on my laptop - this fix worked, and after reading your reply, my sides nearly burst I laughed so hard. To add to your comment, which I agree 100% with, since last December, I now use a Mac at home, and PC's at work. It is comical how much Microsoft has messed up their latest OS in their attempts to make it "better than any other Windows" and how seamless and easy the Mac OS X works. I am planning to upgrade to the new Leopard OS in January, and don't anticipate any issues in this upgrade. I will probably still be dealing with new issues from my Vista install on my work PC.
My recommendations to those who can - switch over to a Mac - you will rarely ever have any issues again.
